Lib 100 Library & Research Methods

Course Description

This course provides an overview of the Research Methods and Skills that can be applied to all the disciplines studied at the college. 

The LIB 100 course focuses on applying online databases and online bibliographic management software for effective and efficient scholarly research.

Students are introduced to a variety of databases such as EBSCO, Lexis-Nexis, JSTOR, WorldCat, and a variety of other electronic resources.

Information Literacy Standards

Information literacy is the ability to recognize the need for information, locate it, evaluate it and then use it effectively and appropriately within ethical and legal limits. 

An information-literate individual is able to:

  • Determine the extent of information needed
  • Access the needed information effectively and efficiently
  • Evaluate information and its sources critically
  • Incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base
  • Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
  • Understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information, and access and use information ethically and legally*

LIB100

Lib 100 classes are offered in hybrid or fully online asynchronous formats. This is a 2-credit course.
